May 31st - Rainy Day

It rained all night and was still coming down when I
got up around 7am...We so desperately need the water...

I decided after getting home from Anise's recital at 11pm
that I was not going to get up and hunt the last day of turkey
season...

So my season ended with 1 tom and a few near misses but I
had a lot of fun and learned quite a bit...

Today the John Deere 110 backhoe made another appearance
on the place and in true fashion as I said, it was raining...Good
thing I had some rain gear...

I first started up at the fire pit and got all the excess topsoil
that was left and pulled it over to the front lawn...Once that was
done I raked it level and got the firepit area complete and seeded...

The thing I noticed very quickly is that the topsoil must have had
some clay in it because being wet, it was like working with thick
wet cement that was starting to dry...

So needless to say things did not get finished as nice as I would have
wanted it to on the front lawn part...But its done for now and at least
the dirt is in place...I now have to wait for it to dry some and then I
can rake it down, thin it in some areas and then seed it...

After that was completed I worked on cleaning up the 2 areas Bill
took dirt from for the lot on Friday...My turn around area is now much
bigger and should be easier to get my truck and trailer through...

I also disconnected the pipe we found and glad to say, no water came from it!

I finished the day pushing brush piles together for myself and my cousin
for when we burn soon and I went up to the mountain road to see if  I
could fix all the ruts...Shaved the middle down and not much else due to
all the rocks...It really needs fill...

That ended a busy day around 4pm and from there I started tearing down
more sheetrock in the dining room and getting ready to do baseboards, clean
up and insulate...

Then I can get my computer desk out of my kitchen!  :-D
